Common Sense and Manners 101

While I was seeking intellectual pleasure watching King of the Hill (klassy, I know). I remembered a very important (common sense/anyone with actual manners would know already) lesson I wanted to just throw out there.

When talking to a police officer or a person in the military service (especially those who have been overseas) please be careful what you talk about. With the possibility of danger lurking at every corner, their jobs seem so much more awesome than a desk job pushing paper and with such danger, unsolicited and inappropriate questions can be brought up by the unsuspecting public. These questions pretty much stem off the following:

"Have you ever shot somebody"
"Have you ever shot and killed somebody"
"Have you ever killed somebody"
"Have you ever watched anyone die"
"Did anyone die while you were over there" <-- more for military
"Were you ever near any IED that exploded" <--again, military
"Have you ever been shot at"

and any forms of the questions listed above.

Of course kids (especially boys) will ask questions like these all the time, they're a little more brushed off the shoulder than when an adult asks. I couldn't tell you how many people have asked ME these questions about the Mister, much less have asked him personally. They're all really personal questions that most sane people, usually put in a position like that, don't want to talk about. It is a big decision to have to think about, let alone make the decision to take someone's life, even if it is for their own (or a collegue's) safety. I don't think a lot of people really sit down and think of the reprocussions, to actually think that "yes, I just killed a man, I myself decided when this man should die. I've taken them away from their families, kids, and friends" Through bits and pieces, I've learned that the Mister has shot people, he's probably had to make the decision to kill someone for his and other's safety and he's seen fellow soldiers die in combat. He won't ever tell me, but I've picked up on it. Its a really deep spot for him that I don't ever think will open up about it, and I don't expect him to.

He's got one of his really good friends who is a cop and all he talks about is all the excitement about pulling his gun and he *almost* shot a guy. Luckily he hasn't had to make that decision through his career, and I hope he never has to. Another kid in his academy would not shut up for the 6 months of their academy trying to get any information from Mister about his time spent overseas and if he ever shot/killed someone. I call them idiots, but the Mister just laughs and says "when the time comes for them to have to do what I did, they won't be so open to talk about it anymore"

So, I know curiosity can get the best of us, but there are some sensitive areas and questions that need to be completely thought about through another's perspective before the question is asked.

Attention internets I have an announcement to make

The Mister and I will be having visual orgasms this Tuesday night in San Antonio all thanks to this:

I can't WAIT! I've been running around like a kid waiting for Santa Clause all week and I seriously can't believe its already Thursday night! Only 4.5 days to go! OMG OMG OMG I have minor freakout of excitedness every 5 minutes or so. I've already planned where we're staying, which by the way we're getting a total steal on thanks to Hotwire the room we're staying in typically costs $169/night and we're getting it for $79. Thats right folks NINETY DOLLARS CHEAPER! WOOT!

That is all I have for now, just wanted to brag/SCREAM FROM THE WEBTOPS!!!

You totally rock! I love you!

Those are the words I heard from the Mister when I told him after I got a new vehicle he could start looking for motorcycles. He's wanted a motorcycle for so long and even has his license, but his parents were never too happy about him having a motorcycle so he never got the chance to get one. Unfortunately I think I let the cat out of the bag a little too soon because he's already talking about what kind of bike he wants, we are probably not getting me a vehicle for a year, so I'll be hearing about this crap for quite some time! Its good to know I still have a way to get to his heart though ;-)

So

the Mister is an official police officer now! WOO HOO!!! I guess that means I should watch my driving now. I'd hate to embarras him; the cop's wife getting a ticket lol!

The home search is still pretty rocky. Perhaps it is because we're picky, or perhaps it is because everyone with a nice house doesn't want to sell it, but we haven't found "the one" yet in our price range and that kind of sucks. I want to be out of this house, between living right on a busy road, a huge house (equipped with high energy & gas bills, plus extra sq. ft of cleaning), and it just not being "our" home I'm just kind of done with it. I don't want to decorate just to have to pack it all up and move in a few months. *sigh* a few more months I guess. Cross your fingers it jumps out at us within the next few weeks! haha

On the school front... I PASSED ALL MY FIRST SEMESTER CLASSES WITH A's!! That is right ladies and gents, I currently have a 4.0 GPA :-) I'm so proud of myself I have my grades hanging on my fridge! Actually I have it as motivation through my summer classes. They are going to be terribly boring and the scariest of all NO MATH CLASSES :-( I have a tiny urge to buy a calculus book now so I can non-chalantly learn some calculus before my class this Fall (its an addiction, I swear it!)

Here's a line up of my summer classes:

Summer 1
-English 1302 ::insert overly dramatic and cheesy death scene here::
-Federal Gov't <-- Oh joy, sounds like a exciting class!

Summer 2
-General Psych - I haven't been able to feel this class out yet, but I've heard rumors they write a lot of papers (cue the overly dramatic deatch scene again)

Once summer is done I'll have a total of 9 classes (81) hours towards my degree plan of 152 hours. Yay!!! I hope I can keep up with this schedule and be done with my first 2 years in a year and a half and I can begin my last two years fall of '10!

Well, I should retire since I have to get up tomorrow morning. Talk to y'all later!!!

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Hey everybody!

I took my final final today for this semester :-) YAY! I won't know my grades until this coming Monday, but I hope I did well!

I now have a 3 week break before I start my next classes:

Federal Government
and
English 1302

THE HORROR!! I'm not looking forward to my classes until this coming fall when I get to start calculus YAY!

The Mr. is graduating from the police academy this Monday and I couldn't be more proud of him! I'm a cop's wife now! WOOT!

The home search is c-r-a-w-l-i-n-g right now, but now that he and I both will have more time I think it should be easier. Hopefully we'll have some prospects in a few weeks! Wish us luck!

Going into uncharted waters

As of yesterday, I started the South Beach Diet. I've NEVER been on a diet before so this should be pretty entertaining. The first phase is the hardest, so we'll see how I do the next 2 weeks.

The types of food allowed right now are pretty much EVERYTHING I don't like. I'm a terribly picky eater so here are my following options:

Breakfast:

-Scrambled Eggs
-V8 (I'm not a fan of V8 but I had no other option)

Snack 1:

-Handful of mixed nuts including cashews and almonds <-- I'm a "peanut only" fan and this by far is the hardest, these nuts are so disgusting, but it helps alot with portion because I only eat as much as I have to, I never want to eat any more

Lunch:

-Spinach salad with "Free" Italian or Ranch dressing (only the allowed amount) with chicken, leftover fish from the night before or sliced lunchmeat in the salad.

Snack 2:

-A pickle, yes that is right, pickles are A-OK and I have an industrial sized jar of whole dill pickles. Be jealous :-)

Supper:

-Fish or Chicken
-Broccolli or Green Beans (I HATE broccolli, but I can choke it down since I needed more than one option)

^That is my ENTIRE menu for the entire 2 weeks because everything else on the list makes me want to just not eat anything at all. Totally sucks being a picky eater.

I'm *hoping* to lose between 5-10lbs. They say the average in the first phase is 10-12lbs, but after talking to people who have actually been on it the going rate seems to be 5ish.

In other news the Mister is graduating from the academy in 2 weeks! I am so proud of him! I myself have finals for my first semester next week so cross your fingers!

We're also in the market for a home so we're going to have an exciting journey ahead of us! Hopefully we'll have a pretty easy time since we like to research ourselves. Tons of stuff going on!

I'll update more news as it comes to me!

Howdy internets!!

I really suck at this blog thing still. Sorry!!

We have a TON of new things going on around these parts, where do I start?

The Mister is going to his FINAL test on Monday for the academy OMG OMG OMG! Actually, it isn't for his academy, its to actually be certified. Did I mention OMG! So everybody out there cross your fingers, legs, eyes WHATEVER you can for us pretty please!!!

My first semester is rolling to an end with my finals coming up in just 3 weeks. WOW!!! I'm so proud of myself and my motivation to get this stuff done! I've talked with the advisors at the university I'm going to transfer to and I discovered that 3 classes I took six years ago will still transfer over even though they're so 'old'. WOO HOO!!! That saved me almost $1000 on just those three classes. We're trying to figure out what I need to do to get my first 2 years done and taken care of into 1 1/2 years and I'll hopefully start my last 2 years Fall of 2010. I'm so excited, and I am especially excited that I'm thinking so far into the future, I think it helps me keep going full force because I can just FEEL it in my grasp. We'll see where I'm at starting this Fall and the coming Spring semesters. Wish me luck!

On the homefront, we're actually looking for a home! Can you believe people actually think we're adult enough to own a home of our own? Hahaha. We're working on getting prequalified now and hoping to have a contract on SOMETHING in the next month or two. I've been on the agent side of the fence, I can't believe I'm on the buyer side! I'll keep you updated including pictures when we finally decide!

The Mr. and I have officially fallen off the bandwagon of working out/dieting but we're running as fast as we can to get back on! I really want to lose this weight but I have this terrible fear I will never get rid of it. Why this fear you ask? I've been trying to get rid of it for over a year and all I've lost was 5 lbs and that was when I was so sick, for 3 days I couldn't eat. So I guess if worse comes to worse I'll just make sure I get sick enough not to eat another 4 or 5 times :-) its that 'easy'

Both kids are doing fine, Maggie Mae is now pretty much completely deaf and Pudgy after being declawed has come back with avengence and bites 110% hard than he did before the declawing. I guess that shows me!

I *think* that is all I can think of right now to update on and I promise to try and get on here more often to update. Scout's honor!
